What is the best topical treatment for preventing a cut from forming into a scar on the skin?

I have heard vitamin E, triple antibiotic ointment , and Scar Guard work well, but i wonder what is the best? Has anyone experimented with these, and if so, what do you think works best to prevent scars on the skin?
