What is the role of peripheral thermoreceptors in the skin?

All I have in my notes is that they act as an %26quot;early warning system%26quot; for the hypothalamus and thermoregulatory centre. Could someone please explain this? It%26#039;s for A2 biology btw :)

Thankyouuu

Sian x|||Body temperature should be kept in balance. For that purpose exists a control center that functions as a thermostat and it is placed in the hypothalamus. It receives signals from the structures inside the body (central thermoreceptors) and from the skin and mucous membranes (peripheral thermoreceptors).
