Is it necessary to use sunscreen to protect skin?

I have heard my grand mothers were working in fields for years and also they were very hard working who used to spend whole day under sun. They don%26#039;t even know what is meant by sunscreen. It%26#039;s amazing even today at their 70%26#039;s they enjoy glowing skin and they are fairer than me!. So. I believe sunscreen producers in order to market their product simply blame poor sun!. Post your comments.|||your gradmother%26#039;s time was different

on that time atmospheric condition was not same as today.

and what ever your gradmothers was eating that much new generation cant eat. the hard work of your gradmother is uncomparable with the new generation.

there are so many factors./////////////////|||are you serious?|||your grandmothers wore long sleeves and hats to protect their skin the sun screen manufacturers have to follow strict f.d.a. guidelines. its a proven fact that unprotected skin is damaged by the sun if you are unprotected ie.the sunburn|||i%26#039;m alergic to sunscreen. every single kind i can%26#039;t wear any of it! i%26#039;m portuguese so my skin is olive-ish and i don%26#039;t want to sound cocky but i have really pretty skin when it%26#039;s tanned! maybe they just have good jeans or something. but i have seen a few old lady%26#039;s who have spent WAY to much time in the sun!|||I did my 6th grade science fair project on this very topic. I found that it does protect your skin from the UV rays in the sun, and the longer you have the sunscreen, the less it protects you. I think it is necessary to wear it, just because of all the skin cancers and stuff you can get by not wearing it when you are in the sun for a long time. Do what you wish, but my advice is to wear it. You could save yourself from heartache (and possibly cancer) down the road.|||No, you don%26#039;t need sunscreen. You need to prevent burns, but sun is a GOOD thing.

That%26#039;s right skin cancer rates have almost tripled in the last 30 years. The age of first onset is dropping like a rock.

Billions of gallons of sunscreen, sunblock, suncream, kids afraid to go outside like they%26#039;re going to get skin cancer instantly, blah-blah, and the skin cancer rates stilly skyrocket and age of first onset, continues to drop.

Hmm. Can%26#039;t be the sun, cuz we%26#039;re sorta blocking it all out and hiding from it.

However, there exists another possibility...

The chemicals in our body products weren%26#039;t in body care products back in the days of the natural ways. Back in the days of the natural ways and for about 20 years after that, skin cancer was relatively rare and an *old* person disease.

There was no sunblock. If the sun was out, so were all the people. Time indoors was time wasted. Kids played ball and rode bikes, children took walks in the fresh, sunny air.

But there was almost no skin cancer. Interesting.
